Support Group for Parents of Challenging Children - KITES

This is a supportive, educational and confidential group that meets bi-weekly for two hours.

Parents come here to help each other and learn more about possibilities and options for their children. They also learn ways to take care of themselves, gaining emotional strengths to effectively raise their chidren.

Is your child "challenging"?

Do parenting strategies that work for other parents not work for you?

Does he or she exhibit any of the following?

Intense Outbursts, sometimes involving physical and/or verbal aggression

Unusually lengthy or frequent tantrums

Difficulty beeing with or around other children
An unusually high activity level
An inability to "get going" or to calm down when aroused
A high sensitivity to noise, textures (i.e. in food / clothing), smells or visual stimulation.

If you recognize your child in any of the statements above, you may be experiencing daily feelings of frustration and anger. You may also be feeling depressed and powerless as a parent.

                                                                   You are not alone.

Now ask yourself this:

  • Do you feel inadequate as a parent?
  • Do you feel your child needs "more" than other children?
  • Do you feel exhausted from being around your child?
  • Do you feel that the other parents "have it together" more than you?
  • Do you feel at your "witts end" ?

                                        Others feel the same way.

Contact the group facilitator for cost, dates and times. Some sliding-scale fees are availabe.

2) Women Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse Support Group

Dealing with childhood sexual abuse can affect your everyday life, from parenting, to work to relationships. This confidential group meets every other Saturday for two hours. Because talking about this isn't always easy, I include therapeutic tools such as art, sand tray and guided imagery. These and other techniques can help you work through and heal the emotional trauma you've experienced.

This group is a way to work on being a more loving partner, more effective parent and more successful in general. In this group, women get together to listen to each other's stories, laugh and cry together, figure out everyday "live -management issues" and generally suport each other in a therapeutic setting.

Women Only. Some sliding-scale fees are availabe.
